The North Carolina Substance Use Disorder Federation is a consortium of substance use disorder organizations and groups that promote policies to assure quality systems of education, prevention, and the expansion of a continuum of prevention and treatment services and recovery supports to effectively meet the needs of our population.

Tobacco Initiatives

Breathe Easy Conference
Breathe Easy NC is a statewide initiative to reduce tobacco use among behavioral health consumers and staff. Since its inception in 2011 the initiative has formed a statewide coalition and now hosts biennial conferences. The program seeks to include mental health professionals including psychologists, clinical social workers, licensed professional counselors, marriage and family therapists, physicians, nurses, substance use disorder counselors, health educators and other healthcare professionals interested in reducing tobacco use in the behavioral health community. Emails will feature updates and conference information.

Recovery Initiatives

All Things Recovery by Jimmy Cioe
Jimmy brings over two decades in long-term recovery and his work as an alcohol/drug counselor to  RecoveryNC. His work includes bringing greater visibility of effective prevention, treatment, and recovery to the workforce and the public and the promotion of a Recovery Oriented System of Care.

Veteran Initiatives

Governor’s Working Group on Veterans, Service Members, and their Families
The GWG is a coalition of federal and state agencies, nonprofits, and advocacy organizations interested in assisting military members and their families lead successful lives prior to, during, and after deployment. The Group attempts to identify gaps in behavioral health services, education, employment, and housing and work together to develop effective solutions. Newsletters contain information on current initiatives in the State as well as upcoming events, trainings, resources, and advances in research..

NC STRIVE (Student Transition Resource Initiative for Veteran’s Education)
Aimed at administrators, staff, and faculty at two-year and four-year public and private institutions of higher learning, NC STRIVE is committed to the enhancement of student veterans’ success by providing them with the necessary information, opportunities, and resources to achieve their career goals. Emails provide information on the annual conference as well as resources for those serving student veterans.
